On 3 March, the SCGI, together with Nasdaq, TheCityUK and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the UK and the Embassy of Sweden, arranges a seminar where we will discuss the ambitious suite of reforms aimed at strengthening London’s capital markets in the UK, and compare them to the EU:s Savings and Investment Union initiative as well as Sweden’s success in promoting a dynamic and inclusive equity culture.
The event will be held in London at the Swedish Ambassador’s Residence on March 3rd. More information, programme and registration below.
Following Brexit, the United Kingdom has introduced an ambitious suite of reforms aimed at strengthening London’s capital markets, streamlining access to public listings, and encouraging greater retail and institutional participation in its stock exchanges. Flagship initiatives such as the Leeds, Edinburgh and Mansion House reforms have prioritised revitalising the UK’s equity ecosystem by lowering regulatory hurdles, improving research coverage for smaller companies, and mobilising long‑term savings toward productive investment.
In parallel, the European Union’s Savings and Investment Union (SIU) seeks to integrate and deepen Europe’s fragmented capital markets. Sweden has, in several respects, served as a benchmark—benefiting from a strong equity culture and a steady inflow of companies, particularly into growth markets. Inspired by the UK’s recent progress, this event will examine how policy innovation, regulatory flexibility, and market‑driven reform can contribute to the EU’s ambition of fostering a more dynamic and inclusive equity culture.
