About us

SCGI’s core mission is to contribute to vibrant Swedish and European capital markets by conducting applied legal and economic research in the field of corporate governance, thereby promoting an informed and scientific understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing listed companies, investors and policymakers.

The Swedish Corporate Governance Institute (SCGI), part of the Stockholm Center for Commercial Law (SCCL) at Stockholm University, conducts applied research and education in the field of corporate governance. The research is mainly conducted from a law and economics perspective, focusing on how the corporate governance regulatory framework and market practices affect business dynamics, entrepreneurship, innovation and investment in the real economy. Through theoretical and empirical research in the fields of law in combination with economics, accounting and business, the work aims to be of direct practical relevance to listed companies, investors and policy makers.

Outreach and collaboration are other important features of the Institute, and we regularly organise seminars and conferences on topical corporate governance issues aimed at both academics and those working in the corporate governance field. Our outreach activities are an important channel for disseminating the Institute’s research as well as an important way of receiving input into the Institute’s work. The SCGI has a particularly active board which also plays a crucial role in keeping the Institute’s work relevant.

The Institute’s work benefits greatly from collaboration with an extensive network of academics and practitioners in Sweden and abroad, which enables the Institute to disseminate and inform about the process and rationale behind the development of the Swedish corporate governance framework, and to keep track of the most important challenges in corporate governance.
